This summer I am taking a plunge into the world of Postmodernity through an independent study with Dr. Hawk. First part includes “Truth is Stranger than it used to be” and “The Illusions of Postmodernism”. Reading these books is analogous to exploring and researching books about a foreign land prior to visiting. Second part involves “Handbook of Postmodern Biblical Interpretation”, “The Postmodern Condition”, and “Texts under negotiation”. These three books are analogous to visiting this new country and getting to know the natives, listening to them, observing, soaking it all in. My posture is shaped by suspension of “hermeneutics of suspicion” and exercising polyaniesque learning from the inside. Finally, I counclude by reading “Is there meaning in this Text?” as analogous to coming home, sitting down with the family and sharing my impressions and experiences in that foreign land while listening to “old uncle Kevin” reflect on his own visit to that land…
I am currently nearing the end of this journey, as I read “The Postmodern Condition” and “Is there meaning in this text?” It is now time to synthesize and collect my thoughts on this topic as I prepare to write my paper
